Jackie Zimmerman started teaching in 2015 and joined Coastal Connections Academy in 2021. She currently teaches language arts, math, science, and social studies to kindergarten students. Ms. Zimmerman previously taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and second grade. In addition, she has served as a mentor in an educator support program and has led school clubs such as yoga.
Why I Became a Teacher
Teaching is a wonderful way to express my creativity and build relationships with students and parents. I love seeing students flourish—being part of that growth has always been very rewarding.
The Online School Experience at Coastal Connections Academy
When I started teaching virtually, I wondered if I’d still have the collaboration and community-building environment I had in a brick-and-mortar public school. At Coastal Connections Academy, not only have I developed incredible relationships, I’ve also learned so much from my team. Being part of a team that fosters positivity and is made up of happy teachers provides a great learning environment for students.
I try to make my LiveLesson® sessions upbeat and exciting. I always bring high energy for my students with a variety of technology that makes learning fun. I offer “Fun Fridays” where students can dance, sing, play games, chat with me, and talk to their classmates. We also take virtual field trips all around the world.
I want them to want to log in to see me and their friends.I make daily phone calls to compliment their success and also make encouragement calls.
Message for Families Considering Online School
I’d say this is a great time to get started! The Coastal Connections Academy team looks at the student as a whole. We value diversity and encourage individuality. We give students the tools they need to be successful and show them how effective those tools can be. We also provide parents with the support they need to make the virtual school experience a reality.
Hobbies and Interests
When I’m not teaching, I love to spend time with my family. We like to travel, play board games, sing karaoke, attend concerts, and visit local festivals. My little chihuahua, Riley, also brings me SO much joy!
