Bachelor's Degree, Exceptional Student Education, St. Petersburgh College; Master's Degree, Integrated Sciences and Online Learning, American College of Education
Amihai Uriel began teaching in 2012 and joined Coastal Connections Academy in 2021. He teaches world history, world cultural geography, and sociology to students in grades 9-12. Mr. Uriel shares his experience at Coastal Connections Academy below.
Why I Became an Educator
I decided to become a teacher because I wanted to do something meaningful. When I think about my life and the people who had an impact on me, I always think about my K-12 teachers. I've always loved learning about history and science (the two subjects I've taught). I knew teaching would give me an opportunity to do something I love -educate students.
What I like most about teaching at Coastal Connections Academy is the freedom and flexibility it gives me as a teacher. I love being able to plan out my day and have the autonomy to do my job as a professional.
The Online School Experience at Coastal Connections Academy
Online teaching allows me to work with students on a more individual and intimate basis compared with brick-and-mortar public schools. Also, there are so many cool virtual resources available that you can use only in a virtual setting.
I like to foster student engagement by trying to relate what they're learning in their courses to the real world and their lives. I also try to relate to my students and use humor as much as possible. When students can see that you can relate to their lives, they are more invested in the learning process.
