High School Student

Eion Ortiz is a high school student at New Mexico Connections Academy. He lives with his family in Albuquerque. At New Mexico Connections Academy, Eion is able to tailor his schedule to fit his learning style and interests. He shares his story below.

“I joined New Mexico Connections Academy after school had already started, so I was 104 lessons behind! At first it was overwhelming, but after I worked hard—even on weekends—to catch up, I realized how beneficial it is to have flexible scheduling in school.

I love that I can contact my teachers by phone or WebMail message. They help me as much as I need, and I feel super thankful and blessed for their support. When I was trying to catch up, my teachers pointed me in the direction of tutoring, which I do every week to keep improving my grades. I enjoy my electives, and my favorite course is English.

"I am thankful for the endless opportunities that the school has given me to prepare for and succeed in college."

— Eion

New Mexico Connections Academy has been a great school for me to achieve not only my academic goals, but also my personal goals. I sure will miss New Mexico Connections Academy when I graduate, but I am thankful for the endless opportunities that the school has given me to prepare for and succeed in college.

Outside of school, I work at Target as a store trainer. In my free time, I love anything that has to do with sports.

I have been accepted into five different universities out of state, including, Arizona State, Northern Arizona University, The University Colorado State, and The University of Colorado Boulder. I have also been pre-accepted into Western Colorado University. As of right now, I plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism with a minor in radio broadcast or language communications at the University of Colorado state or Colorado Denver."
