Sara Edgar is the College and Career Readiness Counselor at Nevada Connections Academy. She has been with Nevada Connections Academy since 2020. She shares her story below:

“I became a counselor because I love being able to help and support the students beyond the classroom. Through Connections Academy I get the opportunity to know each student including their plans for after high school and support them through those transitions all from the place they feel most comfortable, their home.

There are so many benefits to working at and attending Nevada Connections Academy. I have been able to experience both sides of things as my children also attended Nevada Connections Academy. The ability to create your own schedule with the flexibility you need, as well as being able to work ahead or slow down when necessary, based on where your student is at academically are just a few of the benefits you get when attending Nevada Connections Academy.

My advice to prospective families: Great time management and organization are key in this type of school setting. It is easy to get behind if you do not have a regular routine. The other key part is reaching out early and often. Communicating weekly with teachers and staff and asking questions often is so important to your student’s success. The benefit, however, to this is that this can also be an opportunity to make these key life components a strength as these are key skills for school and beyond.”
