Why I Became an Educator

I started my career in education as a secondary education classroom teacher. Throughout my teaching career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with students in a variety of settings and different roles. Over time, I realized my true passion was working with students in a counseling capacity.

I truly enjoy working with students and watching them grow during their time at this school. Knowing I played a small role in helping a student achieve their academic and post-secondary goals makes me proud to be an educator.

The Benefits of Online Learning

This school has a wonderfully diverse student population. I love learning about each student’s academic journey and the incredible things they accomplish outside the classroom. I’ve learned so much about the communities our students live in across the state and how their communities have helped shape their unique outlook on the world. Our students are kind and encouraging and work together to create an inclusive learning environment.

Maine Connections Academy is all about personalizing each student’s education path. Our course offerings—including dual enrollment courses, career and technical education courses, and Advanced Placement®* (AP®) courses—let students try new things and dive deeper into topics they enjoy. Students here can create a unique learning experience.

“Our ultimate goal here is to continue creating a community in which all students, teachers, parents, and staff feel as though they belong.”

The Online School Experience at Maine Connections Academy

The staff here genuinely enjoys what they do. Through academic summits, advisory calls and lunches, Learning Coach outreach, field trips, and other events, we work hard to encourage connections while having fun. Our school clubs provide another opportunity for students and staff to join around common interests.

In addition to our rigorous and varied academic offerings, this school provides students with the flexibility to complete their schoolwork and follow their passions—whether they’re competing on the athletic field, volunteering at a local animal shelter, helping on the family farm, or running their own business. Students here become independent learners who can think critically about the world around them and their place in it.
