Shenay Damirgi joined Iowa Connections Academy as a first-grade elementary school teacher in 2020. She shares her story below:

Why I Became a Teacher

I didn’t always know I wanted to be a teacher. I studied health promotion for my first degree, but ended up not finding a position in that area. Then life led me to a job as a preschool teacher associate, working with an amazing lead teacher. Being there three and a half years and enjoying it immensely led me to go back to school and get a degree in early childhood.

The Online School Experience at Iowa Connections Academy

The school’s staff is dedicated and caring. They want everyone to succeed, and are willing to do whatever it takes to help support students and families. They’re also supportive and appreciative of each other. It’s an open environment in which I feel comfortable sharing my ideas and opinions positively and respectfully. My elementary team has fun together, even without meeting each other in person.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers; they’re there to help and get feedback from you.

The Benefits of K‒12 Online Learning

I enjoy teaching in an online setting because it allows me to support students and families at a more individual level. A huge benefit is being able to teach LiveLesson® sessions without a scripted curriculum and personalizing lessons the way I feel would benefit the students.

Message for Families Interested in Online School
