Why I Became a Teacher

I’ve always wanted to become a teacher. Being able to help students have that “lightbulb” moment has always been one of my favorite aspects of teaching. Sharing things that I’m passionate about and being there for students who might not otherwise have a voice is super important to me. That’s why I went to school for special education. My love of reading and hope to instill that in my students is why I wanted to also teach reading/language arts.

The Online School Experience at Iowa Connections Academy

Learning through Iowa Connections Academy is a great way to have flexible learning and avoid a lot of the barriers present in a brick-and-mortar school. The learning can be more individualized, and it’s easier to get 1:1 time than it would be in a traditional classroom.

I love being able to connect with students and families on a whole other level compared to a brick-and-mortar school. I try to make each lesson fun and engaging. Calling families and doing 1:1 lessons are the best part because we really get to build that connection that boosts engagement.

Message for Families Considering Online School

We have amazing staff, great students, and supportive families. It is a fantastic alternative to traditional schooling, and there are so many great things to take advantage of and get involved in. And while the technology can be a lot to get used to at first, the content is high-quality and the teachers do a great job of explaining it.

I try to make each lesson fun and engaging. Calling families and doing 1:1 lessons are the best part because we really get to build that connection that boosts engagement.
