Bachelor of Arts, Physical Education and Health Education, Simpson College

Aric Riedemann is a physical education and health teacher for grades 6–12 at Iowa Connections Academy. He began teaching in 2009 and joined our school in 2021. Mr. Riedemann shares his story below!

Why I Became a Teacher

In college, I didn’t really know what I wanted to be and flip-flopped between majors. After some soul searching, I remembered one of my favorite people: my high school physical education teacher and track coach. He had a great impact on my life, and I wanted to have the opportunity to do the same thing for others. I enjoy helping others realize their potential, and I like coaching people and seeing the excitement in their eyes when they connect to what you are teaching.

The Online School Experience at Iowa Connections Academy

I love the amount of collaboration that teachers are able to do here at Iowa Connections Academy. We have a great team that cares about the students and it really shows. We can individualize instruction for students and help them work at their own pace until they’ve mastered the content. And building relationships with students and families who are a part of our school has been very rewarding.

Talking with students one-on-one and building rapport helps encourage them to complete lessons on time and even enjoy doing so! I embrace the uniqueness of every student and guide them along the learning path that’s right for them. I have started fun fitness challenges for students where they can try to beat me in a challenge. This is fun for them because they can see how other students do in these challenges. During my lessons, I incorporate some fun fitness activities that allow students to have a sense of community from accomplishing the same goals.

I embrace the uniqueness of every student and guide them along the learning path that’s right for them.
