Torchy and her family

Finding a school that would both challenge her children and allow them move at a pace that they feel comfortable with was critical for Torchy. Connections Academy was the perfect fit for her family, and her three school-aged children have all thrived. In fact, Torchy’s oldest, Blair, graduated from high school two years early, her middle child, Teddy, is a 2013 graduate. Her son, Cooper, is in high school and takes Honors courses. The youngest, Parker, is in elementary school.

Torchy says, "I am a stay-at-home mother, and I take classes online through Red Rocks Community College. The kids and I are fortunate enough to have my mother living with us. We enjoy Connections Academy because it allows us to work on school as a team and enjoy the material as a family. Grandma likes to work with the kids on writing, while I enjoy the science classes. We have also enjoyed learning new languages with the kids.

All of the kids have always stood out academically, and we worked hard to find a school that allowed them to focus on their academics and move at a pace that they felt comfortable with. At Connections Academy, students are able to work ahead, which leaves time for things they can explore in depth, without the stress of a brick-and-mortar school.

Something that I didn’t expect when we started to use an online school was how the kids would change. They had never had any trouble socially and worked well with others. So when they were suddenly happier, less moody, and more confident, I was surprised. I was not aware of how stressful a bricks-and-mortar school had been for them. Although pulling the kids out of a traditional school was the most difficult choice I have made, it turned out to be the best. I am only sorry we didn’t choose online school years earlier.

Now the kids are doing great. My oldest graduated early, thanks to his high school counselor. He was accepted to Colorado University, Denver University, the Colorado School of Mines, and UCLA, and he plans on studying astrophysics. My daughter is a 2013 graduate and succeeded in all Honors courses. She received support from all of her teachers, including live classes with her Latin teacher.

I love that my one son is now speaking French, thanks to Connections Academy’s fantastic world language program. We look forward to a long relationship with Connections Academy."
