Cara Deckert is a sixth-grade language arts teacher at California Connections Academy. She began her teaching career in 2015 and joined California Connections Academy the same year. Ms. Deckert received a bachelor’s degree in English, teaching credentials, and a master’s degree in education from Vanguard University. She shares her teaching story below:
“I became a teacher because I love helping kids and having an impact on their future,” said Ms. Deckert. “I loved all my teachers while I was a student and realized what an important part of my life my teachers played and wanted to impact students the way I was impacted by my teachers.
“I love that I get to work with students one-on-one and in small groups. I really get to know them on a personal level. I love that I am able to discuss their hobbies and help them with their work.
“An education from California Connections Academy helps prepare students for a bright and successful future, helping them build communication skills and phone skills and to become tech savvy.
“Our school community is so special because we are a staff who loves our students and want to see them succeed. We make sure that we all work together with our students and Learning Coaches to help the students succeed.
“I would let prospective California Connections Academy parents know that although they will not see their teachers every day in a physical classroom, their students will get all the help that they need.”
In her personal life, Ms. Deckert does agility with her dog, River, and plans to keep competing with him in the future. She also enjoys hiking and traveling the world. Ms. Deckert has visited over 20 countries.
