California Connections Academy student Haley with her brother at graduation

Haley Cart is a graduate of California Connections Academy. She joined in her junior year of high school along with her brother, Kiefer. What they found in California Connections Academy was a program that allowed Haley and her brother to learn at their own pace, while also preparing them for college. Haley shares more of her story below.

“What I liked best about attending Connections Academy was that I was able to still have the high school experience and go to my graduation, as opposed to just taking the GED or the high school exit exam. We began looking for an alternative to traditional school because I have a medical condition and found that I was having a hard time keeping my doctor appointments and staying on track. My parents and doctors were concerned about added stressors. We looked at many different programs and were impressed with the variety of classes available as well as the structure of the program at Connections Academy.

I really liked the one-on-one communication between students and teachers because it helped me to understand the curriculum and not get lost in the process. The teachers pushed me in a way that I felt challenged and grew as a student. They never gave up on me! I am a student that learns better and thrives more in a visual setting. I found that traditional classes were long and lost my attention because I had a hard time staying focused. While at Connections Academy, the teachers and curriculum kept me interested and engaged.

My education from Connections Academy prepared me for success after high school in many ways. I took programs such as career exploration and life management skills that taught me how to make a résumé and how to reach my goals so that I could start the career of my dreams. I am enrolled in the dental hygiene program at Cypress College to become a registered dental hygienist (RDH). After I graduate, I also plan to get my bachelor’s in communications. Currently, I am a nanny to a vibrant three-year-old girl, and I am working on my health and fitness. Another future goal of mine is to become a fitness model because I am dedicated to working out every day and eating healthy.”
