Why I Became an Educator

"I always knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. I’ve had a lot of great teachers who made sure I felt like I mattered and pushed me to be a better student. Based on my experience as a student in K–12 and college, I’ve come to respect how educators have had such a positive influence in my life. I hope I make a positive difference in the lives of all my students. I began teaching in a small rural school in Iowa Park, Texas, and moved to the high school in Wichita Falls, Texas, a few years later. I love working with students, their families, and growing as an educator.

The Online School Experience at Arkansas Connections Academy

What I love about teaching at Arkansas Connections Academy is the people who are part of the school community. I also like that I get to expand my skills as a teacher in a new area to reach learners. One of the many benefits of teaching at an online public school versus a brick-and-mortar school is that I get to spend more one-on-one time with each student to aid in their mastery of the content.

At Arkansas Connections Academy, students often search for solutions to problems they first raise on their own. If they can’t find the solution, they can contact someone for help. This gives students the skills of learning and problem-solving they’ll need their entire life.

The school community is such a close group even though we’re spread throughout the entire state. Everyone is positive, supportive, and works as a team to meet student goals. Here at Arkansas Connections Academy, we believe in teamwork. Everyone has a role, and we work together for the benefit of students.
