Shelly Ryan is an elementary school teacher at Arkansas Connections Academy (ARCA). Ms. Ryan has been teaching since 1987, taught at Oklahoma Connections Academy in 2015, and started at ARCA in 2019. She has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Oklahoma State University. Ms. Ryan also went through the National Board Certification. She shares her teaching story below:
“The great thing about teaching is that it provides a lot of variety,” said Ms. Ryan. “I get a new set of students each year with varying personalities, experiences, and ideas. Teachers can change the lives of children. As a teacher, I have the ability to reach out and be a mentor and a role model for students.
“I love teaching at ARCA because I love everyone’s positive attitude and helpfulness. I am excited to meet all of my students and get to know them. I feel that I have closer relationships with both students and parents in an online environment. Students are able to have a flexible work schedule to accommodate special circumstances.
“Our community is so special because there are so many opportunities to socialize through LiveLesson® sessions and field trips. Arkansas Connections Academy offers a top-notch, rigorous curriculum along with many opportunities for socialization in a supportive environment.”
When Ms. Ryan isn’t teaching, she is traveling with her husband, decorating, or reading historical fiction books. She loves to visit her grandchildren as often as possible.
