Melissa Gregory is a world history teacher at Arkansas Connections Academy. She has been teaching since 2009 and started with Connections Academy in 2013. Ms. Gregory earned her bachelor of arts in history education from the University of Central Oklahoma and her master of educational leadership from American Military University. She shares her story below:
“I became a teacher because I love working with children. Their energy is unparalleled. I am from a family of educators and have always loved and been very interested in studying history. Education is very fulfilling to me and will always be something that I stay involved in.
I love teaching at Arkansas Connections Academy because of the one-on-one time with students and the LiveLesson interactions. There are so many neat tools and tricks in LiveLesson that make it feel as though you are sitting right next to a student who is on the other side of the state. There are not nearly as many distractions as there are in a bricks-and-mortar school, and I get to know my students far better. I feel as though our time together is focused and efficient.
The fact that we live all over the state makes the learning experience unique. I feel as though it enriches the experience too because those perspectives from all over the state can be brought in to our discussions to involve the class in whatever subject I am teaching.
This school really helps students plan their time and be responsible for their learning. This definitely prepares them for whatever postsecondary venture they choose. They have autonomy with their schedules but still have the responsibility to get everything done within the deadlines. This is a powerful life skill!”
This is one of the most rewarding programs that your child could be a part of, with some of the most talented teachers from across the state of Arkansas.
