Mark Reider is a teacher at Arkansas Connection Academy (ARCA). He began teaching in 2015 and joined ARCA in 2016. Mr. Reider received his bachelor’s degree in social studies from Arkansas State University. He explains what he likes about teaching at ARCA below:
"I became a teacher because of the profound impact my teachers had on me while I was in school. I knew that I wanted to teach history after taking art history and world history, during 11th grade, with two amazing teachers.
The scheduling flexibility is one of the biggest benefits of online school. Another benefit is that I’m able to regularly contact students and parents to discuss progress. At ARCA, students learn to take ownership of their education.
Even though students and teachers are from all across the state, we are able to interact and create relationships as if we were in a traditional classroom. Being able to constantly have one-on-one discussions with other students, or small group discussions through real-time online sessions, really help to create a strong community.
I would tell a prospective parent that our program is challenging and aimed at preparing a student for college, but the friendly staff is dedicated to helping students succeed."
In his free time, Mr. Reider likes playing disc golf and video games, and rooting on his favorite football team: the Denver Broncos!
