Lorie Fussner is an elementary school teacher at Arkansas Connections Academy (ARCA). She has been teaching since 1998 and joined Connections Academy in 2007. Ms. Fussner has a bachelor's degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Stephens College in Columba, Missouri. She shares her teaching journey below:
“I became a teacher because of my grandmother,” said Ms. Fussner. “She was a teacher who taught in multiple small country schools starting in the 1940s. While my parents worked second jobs every Saturday night, we stayed with her. Saturday nights found us reading books, learning to cross-stitch, crochet, or watching Solid Gold. This led me to my love of reading and learning,” said Ms. Fussner.
“I love teaching at ARCA because I get to know my families so well when teaching online. I love the excitement and dedication our ARCA teachers have for teaching our families. The benefit of teaching at an online school versus a bricks-and-mortar school is that the contacts are more rich and meaningful since I get to have conversations with both students and parents on a regular basis. Teachers and families work together toward a common goal of getting students to thrive.
“We help students succeed, and success leads to confidence, which will help students as they go through their school career and life. If there was one thing I would tell a prospective parent as they are making the decision to enroll in our school, it would be to just do it! This is not a one-size-fits-all situation, and their child’s education can be personalized to fit the student’s needs and to fit the family’s lifestyle.”
In Ms. Fussner’s spare time, she enjoys watching her boys play baseball and football, spending time with family, going to church, reading, doing anything outdoors, and selling houses. She is married to the love of her life and lives in central Missouri with their three sons. They love to travel to Creede, Colorado, every year for vacation and have two goldendoodles, Gracie and Sugar, and a havanese named Jazzy.
