Sierra Stewart is a high school english teacher at Arizona Connections Academy (ACA). She started teaching in 2013 and joined ACA in 2017. She earned her bachelor;s degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and her master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. She shares more about her experience below:
“Since I have been a student for the majority of my life, I have been a strong advocate for the importance of education, which pointed me in the direction of becoming a teacher myself. I wanted to become a teacher because I know the importance, impact, and value education can have for students, as well as the opportunities it can present them in the future.
Arizona Connections Academy allows teachers to build better relationships with our students since we can support them through individualized learning in an online platform. This also makes ACA more accessible and adaptable for students who are unable to attend brick-and-mortar schools. Unlike traditional schools, ACA allows teachers to connect on a more personal level with our students to help them learn the information at their own pace in order to become successful.
My favorite aspect of working at ACA is speaking with students and their families to find out their interests in and outside of school. Getting to know their passions helps me as a teacher build a better rapport with my students and assists in building trust so they feel comfortable learning and reaching out for help and support when needed. I also enjoy the teaching staff at ACA since we build a community for our students by working together to continuously change and grow with their educational needs.”
