Kathy St. Charles
Kathy St. Charles is an elementary teacher at Arizona Connections Academy (ACA). She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master's degree in instructional technology and media. Ms. St. Charles started teaching in 2015 and joined ACA in 2011. She shares more about her experience below:
“Growing up as an English language learner, I found that teachers did not know how to help me. So they just ‘ignored’ me and let me slide by from grade to grade. I was bored, and I was lost. I remember very distinctly the day my dad sat me down and attempted to teach me with music. It was a huge aha! moment. I realized right then and there that there are many ways to teach students if we only take the time to appreciate their strengths and uniqueness. That was also the moment I wanted to be a teacher!
I joined our ACA family because I wanted a chance to really get to know each and every one of my students as an individual. At our school, students can truly learn at their own pace, and I can help each of my students by challenging their strengths and/or bridging a gap in their learning. I also joined ACA because I love the fact that the parents’ involvement is critical. At ACA, students, teachers, and parents are a team, and I love that!
There are many types of schools out there, as there should be. Our school is great, but I also know it’s not suited for everyone, just like a typical brick-and-mortar school is not meant for everyone. I wholeheartedly believe that if a family takes everything ACA has to offer and follows the guidelines, the student can benefit from our school and excel.”
