Karlie Stewart is a middle school math teacher at Arizona Connections Academy (ACA). She graduated from Arizona State University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Mrs. Stewart joined ACA in 2018, She shares below how she became an educator:
“In college I got a part-time job working at a local math tutoring center. While working there, I gained a passion for math that I didn’t realize I had. I also had the opportunity to work with amazing students, and I loved what I was doing. During this time I had changed my major several times, not knowing what I wanted to do. It was this experience that helped me decide to become a teacher. I realized I wanted to help students learn, grow, work hard, and appreciate math.
I joined Arizona Connections Academy because I was interested in teaching online. Technology is expanding, and online schooling is a great alternative for many students. I wanted a new experience and setting. I am excited to meet my students and families. I love how ACA creates many opportunities for educators and families to meet in many settings. This helps foster connections in a way I feel like brick-and-mortar schools are lacking.
ACA sets high expectations for students, which will help them become successful in the future. I am excited to see what all my students can accomplish!
