A martial arts instructor and Learning Coach, Georgeann finds that Connections Academy and martial arts share the same focus: teamwork, discipline, and striving for learning in order to become the best person you can be.
"I am a second-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. I am also an instructor. My son is a green belt with two stripes. We attend morning karate class twice a week, along with another Connections Academy student and some traditional homeschoolers.
This martial arts training gives us discipline. Our focus is not on kicks and punches. It is on how to become a better person—and on what is inside of you that makes you that person. Commonwealth Connections Academy focuses on these same goals. We are not set on getting a letter grade. We are striving for learning the most we can in the way that works the best for us.
Connections Academy understands that each student learns differently. The curriculum is based on a wide variety of student needs. We are encouraged to move at our own pace and to excel in a way that leads us forward. Every step of the way we have school members, teachers, and other parents to guide us. Just like in karate, Connections Academy is about teamwork. We become the people we are meant to be with the help of others.
Education is not easy, but like anything else in life that is worth doing, the end result is worth all of the effort you put into it. Teaching others is the best way to understand what you really know and to find the answers to what you don’t know."
