Mathias Meyer
Mathias is a nine-year-old third grader from Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA). He lives in Gleason, Wisconsin. Mathias is full of energy and asks a million questions. The WCA program has offered him the flexibility to work in shorter intervals, when his attention is more focused. Sometimes, if he has a case of the “wiggles” and seems unable to focus, he has the flexibility to take a break, go outside and do physical education or perhaps work on an art project. This ability to adapt to his schedule has allowed Mathias to work when he is at his best. His mother tells his story below.
“Mathias has been WCA student for two years and is excited about being a second grader. He loves math, especially when he is able to use counting cubes, money, or any of the other great math supplies provided through WCA. Mathias has struggled with reading, but is steadily improving due to the care and attention of this program and his teacher. Through WCA, he has been enrolled in two online reading programs called Raz Kids and Headsprout. Both have given him the extra practice he needs, but in a fun and innovative way. His teacher calls and reads with him frequently and has offered ideas and strategies to enhance Mathias’ reading.
Mathias loves to bike, jump on the trampoline, talk, go sledding, swimming, play with friends, play board games, and just about anything that involves activity. He wants to be a doctor, rock star, veterinarian, or an Olympic swimmer when he grows up. I’m sure this list will change several times before he graduates!”
