Joshua Meyer

WCA Student

Joshua is an 11-year-old seventh grade student from Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA). He has been a student of Wisconsin Connections Academy since kindergarten. He lives in Gleason, Wisconsin. Joshua loves animals and hopes to become a veterinarian some day.

Joshua spends a great deal of time with family and friends. He is an avid reader, loves riding his bike, cross-country skiing, sledding, swimming, and playing video games.  Finishing the Harry Potter series is one of his goals for this summer; he’s already begun the sixth book.
Joshua has thrived in this program due to the excellent curriculum and wonderful guidance from his teachers. He loves the flexibility this program provides and has evolved into a very independent learner, which is such an important skill.

While Joshua is doing extremely well in this program, he did initially struggle with his reading skills. With the addition of some supplemental materials through WCA, such as Hooked on Phonics, as well as the one-on-one guidance of his teachers, Joshua has now become an excellent reader; and more importantly, he loves to read!

Joshua’s favorite subject is science. He enjoys the science experiments and online interactive material associated with it and usually works ahead in this subject.  He also enjoys reading and learning about history.

He says, “What I like most about WCA is that I can work at my own pace. If a certain subject is really easy for me, I can move ahead; or if a subject is really interesting to me, I can go to the links on my home page to learn even more about it. Sometimes there are things I don’t understand, but I know I can just call or web mail my teacher to get help or I can watch the teaching tutorial again to help me understand it better. I like the Elluminate® lessons too because the teacher has really interesting subjects to talk about and I learn a lot.”
