Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA) is a tuition-free, K–12 public virtual charter school that students attend from home. WCA brings a fully accredited public education directly to your family’s door—anywhere in Wisconsin.

Authorized by Appleton Area School District

WCA is authorized under state law by the Appleton Area School District. The school is operated by the Appleton Area School District and the Wisconsin Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Our staff and teachers are employees of the Appleton Area School District. The school is governed by the Appleton Area School Board and advised by an independent Board of Directors, all meetings are open to the public. Please review our scheduled meeting dates, agendas, and information on how to attend a meeting or make a request for public records.

Meet Michelle Mueller, WCA Principal

Photo of WCA Principal Michelle Mueller has been with WCA since we opened our doors as Wisconsin’s first virtual charter school in 2002. First as a teacher and now as principal, she’s helped the school grow to serve over 700 K–12 students throughout Wisconsin. With traditional teaching experience ranging from middle-level mathematics to adult basic education, Mrs. Mueller appreciates the unique benefits of online schooling:

“I love working at a virtual school. I enjoy making sure that every child is supported, whatever the situation. Of course I'm not alone here. WCA has what I think is the best group of teachers I’ve ever worked with—many whom have been teaching here for years. And that dedication and love of what they do translate into success for all of our students.”
