Connect with a Connections Academy Parent

Our family is very thankful for South Carolina Connections Academy. In the past we tried both public school and homeschooling for our children but found that Connections Academy offers the right fit. The best part of being enrolled in Connections Academy is that our kids get a public school education in a controlled environment, tuition free. We have enjoyed the flexibility of having our children at home and having teachers to assist with the assignments. Connections Academy staff has also been very flexible in adapting to each of our children’s individual learning styles.

Our family came to South Carolina Connections Academy in the midst of a very difficult time. In the middle of second grade, it became abundantly clear that our son Brian could no longer succeed in a traditional classroom. Brian has ADHD and tremendous difficulty with his handwriting. These two factors proved to be a difficult combination in class, and we watched our happy little boy begin to beg not to go to school. What made this even more difficult was the fact that Brian had tested into the Gifted and Talented Program, yet his participation was in question due to his special needs. We knew something needed to change.

In January of the school year, we enrolled him in South Carolina Connections Academy—and things began to change almost immediately. Suddenly, the anxiety was gone. His self-esteem began to return. Our happy little boy was back. We are so grateful to have a program like South Carolina Connections Academy that now allows Brian to learn at his own pace, his own way. While his handwriting might not be the prettiest, he knows he has a very bright mind and is learning how to use it. This program has been the best thing that has ever happened to him, without question. As the parent of a special-needs child, I highly recommend this approach. Now we feel like we are truly succeeding.

We enrolled our oldest daughter in SCCA six weeks into her first year of middle school. We moved from the public bricks-and-mortar school to public virtual school to enable our family to get back our home life. We knew that we wanted to make a change, but we also knew that we could not do traditional home schooling.

When we found SCCA, we found the best of both worlds. The curriculum is challenging. The lessons are easy to follow, and the LiveLessons are wonderful. Our daughter has her own teachers, and has contact through the WebMail system as well as through telephone conversations with them. The administrative staff is wonderful and supportive of their students.

The opportunity to connect with other students throughout our state has been great. Our daughter has made friends from all over South Carolina and enjoys talking with them on the phone, and meeting with them on field trips and through other school outings. We love SCCA so much that we have enrolled our youngest daughter in SCCA for the fall when she will start first grade.
