Taylor Ambrosio Wood
Taylor is an Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA) graduate. She lives in Ashland, Oregon. Taylor is a multi-instrumentalist who currently loves playing the marimba. She was the first percussion soloist in the history of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon and a winner of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon’s 2009 Concerto Competition on marimba. Special congratulations go out to Taylor for being named the 2011 Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) State Mallet Champion for the second year in a row!
For Taylor, the ability to practice and play in competitions (and for fun) is critical. Connections Academy provided her with the flexibility to do so. She says that “Connections Academy allowed me to work at my own pace and personalize my education. I really wanted the ability to make my own schedule. It was important for me to be able to attend Southern Oregon University to expand my music education and experiences, while completing high school at an accelerated pace. Connections Academy provided me with the freedom to pursue my dreams.”
At ORCA, “my favorite subjects were and English and math.” But in the world of music, Taylor is a multi-instrumentalist. She was drawn to the marimba because of its rich tone, warm colors, and timbre, as well as the instrument’s ability to communicate a range and depth of emotion.
