ORCA gifted and talented student Jeremy standing outdoors

Jeremy is a graduate of Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA) from Salem, Oregon. Jeremy was the 2010 winner of the Connections Academy March Madness Chess Championship. He tells his story below.

“Our family learned about ORCA through some friends, so we decided to give it a try. I was attracted to the Connections Academy curriculum because it is challenging and because I could advance at an accelerated pace.

One of the things I appreciated most at ORCA is how well the whole system was organized. The education management system had all the information I need, including schedule, grade book, message boards, and WebMail. They are all there to facilitate learning. Also, I liked the Teachlet® tutorials and found them very informative, and often quite funny. I also liked the clubs, along with the rewards that come with some of them. The most exciting of all for me was the reward I received for winning the ORCA chess tournament: a trip to Baltimore!

I believe that Connections Academy fully deserves its name. Indeed, with Connections Academy, students stay connected: to their teachers, to knowledge, and to their future!”
