Ohio Connections Academy Student Wins State Gymnastics Meet

DEFIANCE, OH (June 1, 2011)—London Moening, a fifth grade student at the public eSchool Ohio Connections Academy (OCA), was named the all-around state champion for her age group at the 2011 State Gymnastics Meet. Moening, a resident of Defiance, also was named the state champion on vault, uneven bars and floor, and she placed third on balance beam.

Moening is a member of the Defiance YMCA GymStars. She has been involved in gymnastics for eight years and has been competing for four years. In addition to the State Gymnastics Meet, Moening also placed first on every event and was the all-around champion at the 2011 Arnold Sports Festival Gymnastics Challenge. Moening beat the Defiance YMCA GymStars' all-around high score twice this year and placed first in the all-around in 10 out of 11 gymnastics meets.

Through Ohio Connections Academy, Moening attends classes and submits assignments anywhere there is an Internet connection. The flexibility provided through the school enables her to get a quality public school education, while pursuing her dreams and training for multiple hours every day and traveling for meets.

"It has been so helpful to have the flexibility with her school work," said Molly Moening, London's mother. "She practices gymnastics four days a week for three to four hours a day and has meets out of town on the weekends. With the flexibility provided by OCA, London has more time at home for herself and she is not rushed between school and gymnastics."

"London is a very conscientious student. Even with her busy practice schedule, she pays attention to every detail and asks questions to ensure she will meet all expectations," said Carol Rosenau, fifth grade teacher at OCA.

In addition to students needing a flexible schedule, the eSchool environment can be a great fit for students who are significantly ahead or behind in the classroom, those who learn at a different pace from their peers, those seeking a highly individualized approach to education and those who live in rural areas.

In recognition of her achievements at the State Gymnastics Meet, Moening will attend an awards banquet in Columbus in June.
