CCA Students Receive Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade Association Scholarships

Harrisburg, PA  (March 15, 2011) – Commonwealth Connections Academy (CCA) students, Brittany Copenhaver of Mount Holly Springs and Timothy Lozier of Salyorsburg, both received a $500 scholarship from the Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade Association (HSPDPA). The HSPDPA was able to award 11 scholarships this year to outstanding high school and college underclassmen. They were awarded based on their interest in Irish heritage, scholastic ability, extra-curricular activities, and future career goals.

Passionate about performing arts and music, Timothy Lozier is excited to learn more about sacred music practices and theory when he attends college next fall. Among his many talents, Lozier plays the bagpipe, organ, and piano.  In company of friends and family, Lozier enjoys playing the bagpipe at the Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day parade and be able to contribute to this long-standing celebration.

Brittany Copenhaver’s plans to follow her dream to become a physician. She notes that, “[she] will be majoring in Biology and be on-track to go to medical school where she will specialize in treating Dysautonomia.”  Copenhaver attributes her academic success to the being enrolled in CCA. Suffering from Dysautonomia herself —a health condition that causes excessive fatigue, vertigo, and anxiety—CCA provides flexibility and the support she needs to academically succeed.

Lozier and Copenhaver were excited to be recognized by the HSPDPA. The Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade Association has a long history of upholding a charitable mission of educating Central Pennsylvanians with Irish history and heritage. This is the third year HSPDPA has been able to award scholarships.
