Connections Academy Awarded Renewed AdvancED Accreditation
Leading K–12 Virtual Public and Private School Provider Wins Commendations for “Certified, Qualified Teachers” and “Quality, Technology-based Instruction”
Baltimore, MD, July 26, 2010—Connections Academy (CA), www.ConnectionsAcademy.com, a leading provider of high-quality, highly accountable virtual public and private schools for students in grades K–12, today announced that it has been awarded renewed accreditation from the national accreditation commission, AdvancED. In addition to bestowing its accreditation—a quality ‘seal of approval’—on CA, AdvancED also awarded CA a special commendation for its “certified, qualified teachers” and for its educational model that insists on “teachers who teach!” CA also won additional commendations from AdvancED for its “quality, technology- based instruction,” “multiple, effective quality controls” and “highly responsive operational culture” that is “focused on continual improvement.”
The AdvancED accreditation process involves three ongoing components: 1) meeting high quality standards; 2) implementing a continuous process of improvement; and 3) engaging in quality assurance through internal and external review. Previously accredited by AdvancED, Connections Academy’s renewed accreditation is for a five-year term with regular monitoring of progress and reporting occurring during the term.
“Our AdvancED accreditation provides Connections Academy a nationally-recognized mark of quality,” observed Barbara Dreyer, Connections Academy President and co-founder. “It demonstrates to our parents, students, and education partners our commitment to excellence, our openness to external review and feedback, and our desire to be the best we can be on behalf of the students we serve. We are especially proud of AdvancED’s special commendation for our ‘certified, qualified teachers,’ since we believe our educational model succeeds because CA teachers are actively and passionately engaged in their students’ learning, and love to teach,” noted Dreyer.
Dr. Mark Elgart, President/CEO of AdvancED, stated, “Corporation Accreditation is a quality process that focuses the corporate level on student success and corporation and school effectiveness. Connections Academy is to be commended for engaging in this process and demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.”
AdvancED is the unified organization of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). AdvancED is dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide through accreditation, research, and professional services. AdvancED creates the world's largest education community, representing 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 65 countries worldwide, educating 15 million students.
