Capistrano Connections Academy Calls Young Nickelodeon Star One of Its Own
Ashley Argota, co-star of “True Jackson, VP,” chooses virtual education through Connections Academy for its personalized education, flexibility

SAN CLEMENTE, CALIF., (April 12, 2010) – Capistrano Connections Academy (CapoCA), a leading high-quality K–12 virtual public school serving students who reside in Southern California, is proud to call 17-year-old Ashley Argota, co-star of Nickelodeon’s top rated TV show “True Jackson, VP” one of its students. CapoCA’s flexibility and personalized curriculum help Ashley, a high school senior, balance her acting and singing careers without sacrificing a high-quality education. Ashley’s hard work has paid off; she has been accepted to New York University and both the University of California, Santa Barbara and Riverside.
“Connections Academy allows Ashley to equally focus on two very important aspects of her life—her education and her career, which she is so passionate about—and I’m very pleased we found a program that allows her the flexibility to do so,” said Ashley’s mother, Aurora Argota. “Ashley is very hard working, so the Connections Academy curriculum is great at challenging her, but we’re able to also personalize it to fit her schedule. I am so proud of all that Ashley has accomplished!”
Acting, singing, and dancing have been Ashley’s passion since she was just a little girl and her dedication has paid off. Before landing the role as Lulu on Nickelodeon’s “True Jackson, VP,” Ashley’s first job was a commercial for "The Jungle Book 2." Ashley then went on to star as young Nala in Disney's hit traveling musical "The Lion King," and soon landed appearances on TV shows including "iCarly," "The Division," "MAD TV," "The Wayne Brady Show" and "The Shield." Ashley has also starred in the popular American Girl Revue, a show based on the American Girl dolls.
Ashley started preparing for her path as a recording artist by being the youngest performer ever to win five times in a row at “Amateur Night at the Apollo.” She went on to be a Star of Tomorrow at “Showtime at the Apollo” and perform at such venues as Universal CityWalk, The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the STAPLES Center and Dodger Stadium. Her debut CD titled “Ashley” was released in August 2008.
Throughout her career, Ashley has always kept her school work a top priority, never having below a 3.8 GPA and never failing a test! Ashley has been a student with CapoCA for five years, making the switch in seventh grade to allow a more flexible schedule to focus on her acting and music careers. A Colton, Calif., resident, Ashley will graduate from CapoCA in June 2010 and is very much looking forward to going to college.
“Ashley has been an excellent student, and Connections Academy is very proud of how she has balanced her busy career with her education,” said Dr. Jonathan Horowitz, principal of Capistrano Connections Academy. “Our flexible programs are designed to help students succeed in school, and life and we’re glad we could provide Ashley with a high-quality education that met her needs. We know she will succeed in whatever direction she takes in life.”
The personalized education of CapoCA’s program helps to create a supportive and successful learning environment for students who wish to devote time to real-world and community experiences. The program offers a flexible alternative for children who are ahead or behind in the classroom, those who want more individualized instruction, or have situations that would benefit from a flexible school schedule. CapoCA delivers an academically rigorous education that combines state-certified teachers, a print-rich curriculum, technology tools, and community experiences.
CapoCA is authorized under state law by the Capistrano Unified School District, so there is no tuition charged to parents.
