What students are eligible to participate in Minnesota Connections Academy?

Minnesota Connections Academy serves students throughout the state in grades K–12. Earlier rules required a child to attend a public school in the prior year. This requirement now has been removed.

What technology is provided to Minnesota Connections Academy students?

Each family enrolled in grades 6–12 receives the loan of a desktop computer. Families in grades K–5 must provide their own computer. See the Technology section of the website for details.

Does Connections Academy provide services and accommodations for students with disabilities?

For students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Connections Academy provides a continuum of virtual special education services that range from consultation, curriculum accommodation and modification, collaboration with learning coaches and general education teachers, to virtual direct instruction. Connections Academy provides students with IEPs with related services, that may include virtual speech language and virtual occupational therapy, as determined by the IEP team. For eligible students with disabilities who do not require special education, Connections Academy develops (as needed) and implements Section 504 plans that detail appropriate accommodations and modifications.

How does Minnesota Connections Academy support students with disabilities?

Federal law requires Minnesota Connections Academy to provide its students, regardless of disability, with an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the school’s education program. Minnesota Connections Academy school is accredited by  North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI). Connections Academy is a division of Connections Education, which is accredited by AdvancED.

Will my student have to participate in statewide testing?

Yes, MNCA students are required take standardized tests such as the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA), and any additional state mandated tests required for your specific student. Can my student participate in team sports and other activities at the local school?

Because Minnesota Connections Academy is an online charter school, students are not eligible to participate in sports or extracurricular activities governed by the Minnesota State High School League in their local district.
