Michigan Online Middle School
The On-Ramp to Success
The middle school years at our free virtual school, Great Lakes Cyber Academy (GLCA), are an exciting time as students become increasingly independent with their studies and begin to take more responsibility for their learning. GLCA helps students see their own potential and the many possibilities that are open to them.
Online lesson directions are now written directly to middle school students, as Learning Coaches move into a more supportive role. Students are encouraged to take the lead in their studies and are held to high standards as they move toward their high school years.

Support for Online Middle School Students
Middle school students start to work directly with highly qualified subject area teachers for their online courses, but they remain under the guidance of a counselor or an advisory teacher for overall support. They actively participate in teacher-led virtual instruction and review sessions via our LiveLesson® tool, which provides not only more specific instructional assistance, but also the opportunity for online students to communicate and work with their peers.
Course Electives and Activities
Students vary their online education with exposure to many different subjects and activities in the middle school curriculum. Students in our Michigan virtual middle school program choose from a wide range of elective courses and become involved in the variety of school clubs and activities. They can join clubs that enrich them in whole new ways, like competing in Mathematical Olympiads or writing for the school newspaper.
Additionally, gifted students have access to virtual high-school-level courses and begin to earn high school credit, subject to their counselor’s approval.
