Kern Philgence is a high school social studies teacher at Maine Connections Academy (MCA). After serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Philgence received his bachelor of arts in history from the University of Central Florida and a master’s of arts in military history from Norwich University in Vermont. Mr. Philgence is a doctoral candidate at Northcentral University, where he is pursuing a PhD in curriculum design and teaching.
Mr. Philgence says, “I was born in the melting pot of New York City, and I’ve had an appreciation for multiculturalism since a young age. I enlisted in the Marine Corps to experience the world firsthand. I love broadening young learners’ perspectives and motivating them to achieve their maximum potential.” He is excited about the opportunity to develop students who are socially engaged, independent thinkers.
