Olivia Landreth
Olivia is an nine-year-old third grade student at Kansas Connections Academy (KCA). She lives in Olathe, Kansas. Olivia is passionate about gymnastics. KCA provides scheduling flexibility so that Olivia has a competive advantage in her sport. She tells her story below.
"I am a gymnast. I compete in Level 4 at McCracken's Gymnastics in Olathe. I practice eight hours per week and have meets on some weekends during the fall and spring. My favorite event is floor exercise because I like to flip. I plan to compete in Level 5 next year and my hours of practice will increase to 12 hours each week.
I like KCA because I like to be at home. I also like that we don't have to rush to get to gymnastics practice. I do go to a home-school group on Thursdays, so I spend some time in a classroom. I really like being in a classroom, but it gets noisy and I wouldn't want to do that every day. I also like that I can relax after gymnastics practice and not go straight to bed, because I can sleep a little later in the morning than my teammates.
I usually start school around 9:00am and work until noon. Math isn't my favorite subject, but I'm fond of the rest. I really like science and social studies. I also like to read, especially Junie B. Jones books. After lunch, I finish school; go to the library, or other places we need to go. Then, I eat a snack and go to the gym."
"I really like KCA because Mrs. Hayworth is very nice. I like that I can do school when I am not sleepy, and I love the stories in Reading Street™"
