Florida Virtual School’s Connections Academy (FLVSCA) is a partnership between the Florida Virtual School and the Florida Connections Academy (FCA) created in August 2008. Through this best-of-breed partnership, we offer the virtual school program that has been rated an "A" by the Florida Department of Education for the third year in a row! FLVSCA’s predecessor, Florida Connections Academy, opened in August 2003 and operated a full-time K-8 program through the Florida Department of Education through the 2008-2009 school year. FLVSCA (or FCA) also operated virtual school programs with seven school districts during the 2008-2009 school year.
FLVS and FCA are fully accredited by The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) for FCA and The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for FLVS.
FLVSCA is able to serve students currently through two authorized public school programs in Florida:
- District-operated: A full-time program serving students in grades K–8 operated by school districts in Florida. Students must reside in a school district offering a program, must have been in public school during October and February of the prior school year and may be subject to other limitations imposed by their resident district. Students must meet all public school requirements for attendance and standardized test participation. Click here for a list of participating school districts.
- Florida Virtual School-operated: A full or part-time selection of courses in grades 6–8 that is available to any Florida resident student. Students in this program are considered “Home Education” students which means that they must register in their districts as a home education (i.e. homeschooling) student. There are no other eligibility requirements to participate and students are not required to take the FCAT. Students do follow a standard school calendar. Additional courses for students in grades 6–8 who want a more flexible schedule than the FLVSCA 6–8 program are also available through the Florida Virtual School. With Connections Academy, we are able to break up the schoolwork throughout the day. My son is thriving in this environment, working a full grade level ahead in math. Even though his dad works nights, with Connections Academy, his dad can actually do some of the lessons with him. It helps us stay connected as a family.
