Kim is a mother of four who homeschooled her children for five years and was an online Learning Coach for another five years. This ten-year “school at home” experience has provided her with a unique perspective on both worlds, homeschooling and virtual schooling. Kim joined Commonwealth Connections Academy (CCA) in 2006 as an elementary teacher and has since enjoyed supporting and sharing her experiences with CCA families. She holds a B.S. degree in elementary education from Pennsylvania State University and received her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Clarion State University.

Kim has been involved in Commonwealth Connection Academy’s Elementary Gifted Program since 2008, and she was given the Great Books Great Teacher Award in 2010 for creatively teaching with Great Books in a virtual classroom setting. Kim also coaches new teachers to use the Connections Academy Great Books program. As part of the Elementary Enrichment Program at CCA, Kim developed Advance Primary Independent Projects for grades K–2, to encourage young students to develop fundamental skills in creative ways.

Why She Cares About Virtual School

Kim is excited about the opportunities that virtual schooling provides to families, including the ability to exercise family values while receiving a quality academic plan with supportive staff and qualified, caring teachers. She feels Connections Academy offers a wide range of electives and clubs that appeal to and enhance student growth, especially for the accelerated learner. Kim is very pleased to be part of such an innovative educational program.
